Walk and Talk Therapy
Movement. Mindfulness. Meaningful Conversation.
For some, sitting still makes it harder to open up. Walk and Talk Therapy offers a gentle, grounded alternative that brings benefits of nature and movement into the therapeutic process.
Walk and Talk Therapy is a form of traditional talk therapy conducted outdoors, where the client and therapist walk side-by-side in a natural or urban setting. It combines the benefits of physical movement, fresh air, and open space with the emotional support of a therapy session.
This approach can feel less intimidating, more freeing, and especially helpful for clients who feel "stuck" in conventional therapy settings.
We offer Walk and Talk sessions as an intentional, thoughtful part of your therapeutic journey. We’ll discuss your goals, preferences, and comfort level before stepping outside. These sessions are paced to your needs—whether that’s a gentle walk in a park or a more structured route with planned conversation points.
We integrate grounding techniques, mindfulness practices, and traditional talk therapy—while respecting your pace and privacy.
Why Walk and Talk?
Reduces tension and anxiety by incorporating calming movement
Supports nervous system regulation through bilateral stimulation (walking)
Increases creativity and insight in a less structured, open environment
Encourages presence and mindfulness through nature and sensory awareness
Provides an alternative for clients who feel restless or overstimulated indoors
For many, walking side-by-side removes the pressure of direct eye contact and allows for more natural conversation. Some clients find they’re able to access thoughts and feelings that were harder to reach in a traditional office setting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if the weather is bad?
We’ll check the forecast before your session and make a plan. If needed, we can transition to a virtual or indoor session.
Will we be walking the whole time?
Not necessarily. Sessions are flexible—we may walk the entire time, stop to sit, or alternate as needed.
Is it private?
We choose locations that offer as much privacy as possible. While we can’t guarantee complete seclusion in public spaces, your therapist will maintain discretion and professionalism.
Do I need to be physically fit?
No. We walk at your pace. Sessions are about therapeutic benefit, not physical performance.
